Early Detection

The Importance of Finding Breast Cancer Early

Early detection is critical to determining a good outcome for breast cancer. The goal of screening exams for breast cancer is to find cancers before they start to cause symptoms. Ridley-Tree Cancer Center’s partnership with Sansum Clinic offers the most advanced screening techniques to women anywhere on the Central Coast. All women are strongly encouraged to have a routine mammogram and to discuss breast screening options and family history of breast cancer with their doctors.

Sansum Clinic provides advanced breast imaging services such as digital mammography and whole
breast ultrasound.

Santa Barbara Breast Care Alliance

We are a proud member of the Santa Barbara Breast Care Alliance, our community’s “breast care center without walls.” The Alliance received initial certification in 2010, and in 2013 the Alliance was reaccredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. This recognition is only granted to centers that have undergone a rigorous application process and onsite survey to ensure high-level standards in leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement.

The Alliance brings together surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, plastic surgeons and clinical support staff along with Sansum Clinic, the Cancer Center and Cottage Health to deliver a multidisciplinary approach to treating women with breast cancer. A weekly Breast Tumor Board evaluates patients with complex breast treatment concerns in order to provide each patient with a thorough, coordinated approach to optimal
